Nassau County and Suffolk County are the two counties that make up Long Island. Long Island is 118 miles long, and while you may only be familiar with the Hamptons or Montauk, Long Island has much more to offer.
Queens and Brooklyn, on the other hand, are NOT included in the Long Island Counties. As a result, anything in Queens or Brooklyn (such as Coney Island) is NOT Long Island. Brooklyn and Queens are boroughs of New York City. Long Island even has legislation that differs from the rest of New York, such as the legal smoking age.
