New York City’s North of Little Italy, or NoLIta, is a must-visit. Here’s a quick tour through Mulberry Street packed with upscale & trendy shops & expensive restaurants

NoLIta, is a trendy and upscale neighborhood next to NoHo, SoHo, Little Italy, and the Lower East Side. It is bordered by Houston Street, Bowery, Broome Street, and Lafayette Street. This neighborhood is relatively new; when gentrification of Manhattan began in the 1990s NoLIta was born and quickly filled with young wealthy professionals. It is a tenement building filled area with one-of-a-kind boutiques lining the streets. Walking through the neighborhood, you’ll see hipsters and designer-clothing clad trendsetters.
The three distinct streets that run the length of this smallish neighborhood are Mulberry, Mott, and Elizabeth. Even if you aren’t in the mood for spending outrageous sums on designer duds, it’s always fun to window shop.
Where is it?
Mulberry Street is one block east of Lafayette. It actually starts at Bleeker, one street up from Houston, but this block isn’t considered on this tour.
This tour starts at Houston Street and ends at Broome Street.
For authentic and delicious Ethiopian food try Ghenet at 284 Mulberry.
For some religious history visit Old Saint Patrick’s Cathedral at 263 Mulberry. Showing the diversity of the neighborhood, mass is conducted in Spanish and Chinese as well as English. John F. Kennedy Jr’s memorial was given here in 1999 after his plane crash and death off Long Island.
Just below Prince St is a designer jeans store Chip and Pepper at number 250. The Los Angeles natives brought their west coast coolness to New York by opening their first namesake shop here.
At 247 Mulberry is Amy Chan, which showcases antique look-a-like bags and hats perfect for the urban bohemian.
For authentic Australian fare, visit Eight Mile Creek at 240 Mulberry. Even the waitstaff at this place has an Aussie slang.
On the corner of Spring and Mulberry is Spring Street Lounge at 48 Spring. Filled with college coeds and a younger beer-drinking crowd, it’s a great place for unpretentious fun.
Cross over Spring St and wander into Tracy Feith at 209 Mulberry. The designer’s romantic fabrics are ultra-feminine.
Sexy swimming wear designer Malia Mills has her store at 199. For the most expensive cost per square inches of fabric, you can’t beat this place.
Across Kenmare is a boutique Red Wong at 181 Mulberry. Check out the velvety Victorian clothing and shoes.
