The Jane – West Village

This trendy maritime-themed hotel lets you choose between a bunk bed cabin, a standard cabin (for 1), and a captain’s cabin. Only captain’s cabins have private bathrooms.

Comments: Reviewers on TripAdvisor note that while the rooms are tiny, they enjoyed the view and the safe location close to the hip and happening West Village.

Location: Although it’s off the heavily beaten tourist track, the Jane is located on the edge of the West Village and is just a short walk from Chelsea. Both are great walking neighborhoods full of restaurants, bars, and coffee shops. The hotel is about a 10 minute walk from the subway.

Park Savoy Hotel – Midtown

Park Savoy is a hotel with simple rooms in a fantastic location near Central Park. Each room has a small private bathroom.

Comments: Reviewers on TripAdvisor say that although the rooms are small and the elevator is slow, the location is excellent, with easy access to Central Park and Times Square.

Location: The hotel’s upper Midtown location is perfect if you want to feel like you’re in the middle of it all. It’s just one block from Central Park and close to Fifth Avenue shopping, Carnegie Hall, and Rockefeller Center. It is within two blocks of several major subway lines.

Chelsea Lodge – Chelsea

This small European-style hotel is on a quiet residential street in Chelsea. Each room has a sink and shower, but toilets are shared. There is no elevator.

Comments: TripAdvisor Reviewers were delighted with the price and the quiet, convenient location but acknowledge that the slightly cramped setup is better for couples than for friends.

Location: The hotel is located in the artsy neighborhood of Chelsea, home to the High Line, Chelsea Market, and plenty of coffee shops and restaurants. It is also within walking distance of Greenwich Village and Midtown. Chelsea Lodge is within a few blocks of two subway stations.

Hotel 17 offers decent low-priced accommodation in a peaceful area of the city. Most rooms have a sink but the bathrooms are shared.

Comments: Reviewers on TripAdvisor remarked that the hotel is nothing fancy, but quiet, clean, and in a good location.

Location: The hotel is situated on a residential street in Gramercy Park and is a short walk from Union Square and East Village. It is about a five minute walk from two different subway stations.

Hotel 31 – Murray Hill

Hotel 31 is a sister hotel of Hotel 17 and also offers budget accommodation. Bathrooms are shared for most rooms but all have sinks.

Comments: TripAdvisor Reviewers like the proximity to great NYC attractions but don’t have good things to say about the hotel’s choice of wallpaper.

Location: This hotel is on a block between well-known Lexington and Park Avenues and is just one mile north of Hotel 17. On the outskirts of Midtown, it is a short walk from the Empire State Building, Macy’s, Madison Square Gardens, and the Flatiron Building. Hotel 31 is just one block from the nearest subway station.

The Larchmont offers no-frills accommodation in a charming old building on a quiet street. The hotel has shared bathrooms but each room has its own sink. The continental breakfast is modest but free.

Location: The location is hard to beat – a peaceful residential street in Greenwich Village and very close to Union Square. The subway is just a few blocks away.
